a/n: thank u so much for the request! This was super fun to write, took me back to 2019 when I started watching him :D either way hope you enjoy! (Sorry it took so long 😭 life’s been busy)

I feel like he’d be the type to fall in love with his best friend, or generally someone that he knows fairly well

Expect nights spent talking on the phone with him, laughing your asses off at memes and stupid games instead of doing homework

Or endless bike rides around the city, as if you didn’t do that one route million of times

Maybe even little lessons on the basics of boxing (he isn’t a very good teacher though, he’s too afraid to hurt you)

It comes naturally, his heartbeat starts to pick up every time he hears your voice, your laugh, you saying his name ugh

And you won’t stop leaving his mind, you’re always there, in every each one of his thoughts (might as well pay rent at this point)

Before he knows it, he’s noticing all the little details that make you, well, YOU

He’s in love.

Fuck.

He wouldn’t know what to do about his feelings, either he ignores them and buries this secret deep into his heart, or, after a scary amount of convincing from his friends, he confronts you with the shyest demeanor you’ve ever seen him wear

Assuming this is one of his first experiences, if not the first, he would be very cautious in his actions, not sure yet about how to handle a relationship, especially if it gets more serious

He wouldn’t talk about being in a romantic relationship for a while, mostly cause he doesn’t like to share his personal life too much, especially when it comes to romance

But is there a teenage boy that doesn’t like to brag about being in a relationship?

Would mention it once, casually, you know, to be cool and all

Like “yeah I have a partner” a little smile to top it off, nothing big, just a bit of something to feel swag

Nobody believed him.

The loud boy who screamed about the president 24/7 having a partner? Yeah nice try kiddo, go back to play your stupid videogames

At some point in his young carrier he got tired about the running joke of you being an illusion

“This is what too much screen time does to a person KEKW” chat would say, haha how funny (if you hadn’t notice, he’s being sarcastic)

As frustrating as it was to battle against hundreds of people on whether HE was in a relationship or not, he’d never ask you to do anything you are uncomfortable in doing

So, even if showing up on stream would probably help with this little problem of his, he’d encourage you to actually think carefully if you want to make an appearance or not

“I do have a partner!” Alex says for what feels like the fiftieth time that evening. He should probably give up, after all who cares if chat doesn’t believe him. He knows the truth and that’s enough. Right?

WRONG.

His credibility, and his pride, are in the way. Plus is he even that bad of a catch for people to think he can’t pull?

His head falls onto his hand, resting there as he lets his thoughts run while the fast stream chat on his monitor lights up his face in various dull colors.

You were sitting on a little chair, not too far away from him, staring at something in your phone. He did feel bad for inviting you over just for him to stream an hour later, but you had always said that you didn’t mind watching him since you liked seeing him do something he enjoyed. As if he didn’t enjoy spending time with you, but fine.

So he put his insecurities aside, most of them being about you possibly not liking his streams, and provided you a chair to at least sit comfortably as he robbed you of your time by going live yet again.

It had been going fairly well: he was checking out some horrible games in Roblox, or rather he had been screaming his lungs out for an hour straight, and of course, when a random kid on Roblox asked him to be his girlfriend, chat got back on their “no relationship, you are a loser” (he knows it’s a long name, he couldn’t come up with anything better okay??) agenda.

Your hand waving in his peripheral vision brought him back from his mind: he hadn’t realized he had zoned out.

He looked at you briefly, almost feeling bad for the worried stare you were giving him. He usually doesn’t feel this defeated after an unserious bickering with chat, but to say that this all situation wasn’t playing with his self-doubts would be lying. He’s fine though, he just feels a little gloomy today.

You turn your head to the side and give him a thumps up, voicelessly asking whether he was fine or not. And he just nods, giving you a little, forced, smile before going back to the bright monitor. He doesn’t like the thought of you being concerned about this. While, admittedly, it does feel nice to have someone worried about him, Alex never quite liked to be a bother to anyone. He could handle this alone.

Then why is his head so heavy? And why does he feel without energy all of a sudden? He just needs to do what he does best: push the pain away and walk forward. But even something as easy as that sounds impossible right now.

Maybe he should end stream.

He’s too lost in his own thoughts to realize you had stood from your chair, steadily approaching his setup. When he realizes what’s going on, it’s too late.

“You don’t-“ before the frantic words can leave his mouth, you were already behind him. You cross your arms down his chest, whilst your head, resting on the top of his beanie, being high enough to not get seen by the webcam.

Many things were going trough Alex’s mind, a lot of them being about how nice it felt being hold by you, but only two words left his lips:

“Who’s got no game now, huh?”.

At that point it would go from chat not believing him to chat teasing him endlessly about him being a simp

You two could do nothing and he would still be accused of it, just because you were there

Is it true? Yeah, but it was nonetheless a bit annoying

He WOULD bully you on stream when the secret is out

Chat: “do you like (Name) or Thanos more? Don’t lie”

“Well…” he’d say, scratching his neck in faux uneasiness.

“Don’t think about it what the fuck!”.

His chat took your relationship quite well, after all the time he wasn’t famous enough to have fans being jealous and obsessing over him

Actually you became kind of an icon of his channel

And he did milk this for content but it’s not like you didn’t encourage him, quite the contrary, so expect videos like “playing Roblox with my partner” or “The best Habbo raid ever w/(Name)”

As sweet as this all can be, we haven’t forgot about his light teasing (borderline bullying) on stream, have we?

Don’t worry, you got back at him with the help of Aksel countless of time, he’d be your partner in crime when it came to bullying Alex

You were watching meme compilations with them on stream, occasionally sharing some little laughs and snarky comments, and, one way or another, you somehow ended up talking about shampoos. Yes, shampoos.

“Honestly, I think 2 in 1 are gross” Alex says, spinning around in his chair while still keeping an eye on the running chat. You were sitting next to him in your usual simple wooden chair that he usually stole from his kitchen. It wasn’t much, and you could feel your thighs getting painted with the hard design of your seat, but it feels very homy, heart warming in its simplicity.

Yet, as comfortable and happy as you felt, you really couldn’t help spatting out the comment that had been dancing dangerously on the tip of your tongue, begging to be freed.

“And what would you know about it you bald fuck”.

Silence filled the room.

.

You start to grow worried you stepped over the line as you shoot guilty side-glances at him, trying to evaluate whether he was or wasn’t okay with your stupid joke. His spinning was getting gradually slower, and his eyes wide and open jaw came to view.

You’re able to let out a silent sigh of relief as Alex’s face sinks into a, clearly exaggerated, offended pout.

“Have you heard them?? Defend me Aksel what the hell” he cries dramatically, his mindless spinning coming at a halt to stare into the soul of his screen, specifically at the man that is lightly grinning right back at him.

“I mean.. they’re kinda right man..” he mutters in his typical monotone voice, barely holding back an amused snicker.

Alex’s look of betrayal was probably the funniest shit you had seen in a while.

“Why are you two ganging up on a Mexican guy huh??”

“Awww the Mexican card? No better come back??” you laugh smugly, your face screaming “triumph” as he gawks at you.

“You truly found your match” Aksel laughs, adjusting his bucket hat as he leaned down on his office chair.

“Shut the fuck up” he mumbles before looking away from you with a huff.

Oh God does he love you.

Moving on though, these were harsh years for him, so he needs lots of love and support from his partner

I think it’d be too soon to have full on cuddling sessions, but i see him loving your touch, especially if it’s something domestic like a simple hug or a little caress down his back

Not really into PDA either, but he would find comfort in holding your hand whenever he’s tense or even just cold

It’s a reminder you are still by his side despite all of his flaws and insecurities, you chose him

(Ended up being way longer than I intended but had fun :D sorry for the long wait :( I had two very stressing weeks in the middle of writing this)

A hot July afternoon. You were in your garage along with Bee in his Chevy form. A gramophone was on your working desk, 70s and 80s biggest hits spinning. Bee loves old music.

You were working on his paint job.

“Bee, you need to be more careful, this is the 3rd time this week I’m repainting your bumper”

He buzzed, talking back like a kid. He made you giggle.

“Almost done. There we go!” you straightened and wiped the sweat off your forehead.

“Now let it dry.”

“Sir, yessir!” he spoke over the radio.

You left the can of yellow paint where it belongs, cleaning your hands with a rag. In the meantime Bee transformed.

“Bee! I told you to be careful!”

“I am being careful!” he sat on the floor.

He made you chuckle and shake your head. Then you got an idea.

“You know what? I know how to make your paint job look even better! Wait here.”

You ran inside, to your bedroom, grabbing your sticker album. Then you ran back to the garage, all excited.

“Tadaaa! Stickers!”

Bee buzzed in excitement, his eyes wide. He happily clapped and adjusted his sitting.

You giggled and started climbing him. It wasn’t that easy with the album in your hand.

“Woah-“ you almost lost balance. Bee flinched, having fast reflexes, ready to catch you.

“You need help there buddy?” he asked over the radio.

“Nono, I can do it alone.” you reassured him.

Bee’s optics were spinning and expanding at the sight of you. A low loving buzz hummed in his chassis, you’re too adorable. You made his spark flutter.

You managed to climb onto his shoulder, sitting there, opening your album and choosing stickers that would match his color. Bee was helping you with holding you in front of him as you wanted to decorate his whole helm. He was not taking his optics off of you.

“What’s up?” you chuckled, noticing the way he’s looking at you.

“You’re beautiful…”

“Thank you, Bee..” he made you smile and blush, “There we go!” you put yellow flowers and stickers of bees and honeycombs all over his helm.

He looked at his reflection in a mirror in the garage. He made a chuckling buzz sound as he hugged you tightly. He made you laugh as you hugged him back, giving him a smooch between the optics.

He was literally looking like this “🐝💛^^💛🐝”, buzzing like the happy bumblebee he is.

He took a sticker of a yellow flower off his helm and gently sticked it to your forehead. You both laughed.

“Oh Bee.. I love you..” you said softly while lovingly looking into his beautiful, blue orbs.

“I love you too…” he said as another low loving buzz rumbled in his chassis. He closed his optics and snuggled, gently holding you while enjoying the tenderness of your tiny hands caressing his face plate.

He slowly started cradling you from side to side to the music. Both of you enjoyed the cute little bonding time.

Thinking about the Don Suave scene and what it means in terms of LGBTQ+ representation because my brain does nothing if not torment me with random topics to ramble about on the regular.

Anyway, I just wanted to ramble about why I like the scene but to get it out of the way - the scene can very easily be interpreted in so many different ways, and all of them are valid. I personally see it as Leo having at least some attraction to a man. And the following is an explanation of my own interpretation and thoughts on it and what it means especially for Leo’s portrayal in the grand scheme of things.

Long-winded interpretation under the cut!

Now, to start with, it’s important to me that in the scene Leo looks at Don Suave in the very beginning and then for the entirety of the rest of the time the man is on screen, Leo’s eyes are closed. Yet, in the end, he is still visibly enamored with Don Suave, happily cuddling up to him as he’s being carried away.

You can very easily interpret this as Leo being spellbound and that’s honestly super valid and I believe he likely was at least somewhat in the beginning, but considering how fast he looked away and how he never looked again, I personally think it makes more sense to read it as Leo just finding the man attractive, at least somewhat. (For the record, I personally headcanon Rise Leo as bisexual with a heavy preference for men, but I want to be blunt when I say that any interpretation is valid. Literally any. Ace, pan, gay, bi, none of the above or a mixture of something new literally all of it is more than okay and fair. Hell you could even interpret this entire scene as more romantic attraction than physical and it would still work. Anything goes!! Don’t bother people, guys, really.)

The main reason I take this scene to be at the very least LGBTQ+ adjacent isn’t just because of how it’s portrayed, but because of who Leonardo is. Not in terms of Rise of the TMNT, but in terms of the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™️ franchise.

Leo’s a character who, while changing with each iteration, has still at his core been around for decades upon decades as “the blue one���. One fourth of the team. He’s the one most are going to look at as the Leader, and oftentimes he is the one closest to having the title of Main Character. Not to say the others aren’t just as important, but Leo’s presence in the A plots of basically all TMNT media is often something very main character-esque.

And that’s very, very important to note. Here we have a Main Character of a prolific and decades long-running franchise distributed by a children’s television network. You can play around with his and his brothers’ characters all you like, but there is always going to be challenges to dodge around, especially since this was still in 2018-2019.

For example, you can play around with their designs so long as they’re color coded turtles, but their sexualities? Now that’s tricky.

“But what about Hypno and Warren?” Not main characters and also they’re Rise originals. They have a lot more room to play around with than a character like Leo does. But even talking about main characters in the franchise, you could arguably have an easier time playing around with Donnie or Mikey’s sexualities than Leo or even Raph, as (unfortunately) the former two tend to get more B plots, so they’d likely have had a little more leeway (still not a lot though.)

So, where does this leave us?

It leaves us in a place where outright stating and/or showing undeniable proof of Leo’s attraction to men is very, very difficult. So, workarounds!

Workarounds like the entire Don Suave situation.

To be honest, as left up to interpretation and lowkey and deniable as it is, this whole scene means a lot to me because of who Leo is as a character. It’s just nice when we get so see even the bare bones of representation with characters that have been such a large part of pop culture for decades, y’know? Even if more would be so much nicer, this is better than I thought we’d ever get for these boys.

And, again, literally nothing I’ve said is the only way to interpret it, I’m more than happy when people interpret media on their own honestly, it’s just something I’ve been thinking of lately and I was wondering if others felt the same way.

Whatever you think when you interpret this scene or Rise Leo as a whole, I just thought this would be interesting to think about, even if it was ramble-y, haha.

And honestly???? I’m not totally sure how to give tips— but I love, love, love unhinged characters in media, so I’ll use them as examples

I’ve always been a big fan of silly, ‘crazy’ characters in animated movies and cartoons. I grew up on Batman the Animated Series and the original Teen Titans, which were full of silly, fun tragic characters.

Don’t get me wrong, i love a good edge-lord— but as a tot i thought the colorful, theatrical, insane bad guys were more fun to watch than the big scary serious ones (ESPECIALLY if they had a good villain song. A+ good shit)

And not just bad guys!! There are a ton of unhinged good/neutral characters that i absolutely adore.

((There are many more characters in both categories, but I’ll slide these examples in here for now))

My personal brand of “Unhinged” or “Crazy” characters definitely leans on comedy. That’s what i enjoy seeing and reading! I personally like it because it can help keep a story fresh and interesting. There’s an element of surprise and unpredictability with what a character might do, and i love that!!

I also really enjoy a touch of feral behavior in my unhinged characters. The lack of clarity and the danger that imposes can be a very fun tool to use, no matter the character’s moral compass. (I’m feral for feral behavior lol)

And impulses. Whether a character has a few screws loose or is generally a goober, they like to act on impulses. This often goes hand-in-hand with comedy, and that’s something I enjoy!! We get a lot of moments like that in Rise, and that was one of my favorite parts of that TMNT iteration.

But as far as writing goes, it’s been tricky for me. All of the characters I grew up or love have been visual— trying to find a good balance for reading has been a puzzle I’ve been figuring out as I go.

I read a lot manga (lol nerd) and comics, and I love how thoughts/dialog are depicted. Especially the really dramatic or impactful moments. (I’d add examples but I’m already at the Tumblr image limit LAME)

As strange as it sounds, I try to capture that “impactful visual” style in my writing. If I had ANY advice on writing unhinged characters, pay attention to pacing—

Short. Fast. A calculating thought. Perhaps a run on sentence that lacks punctuation to represent the rushing and disorganized thought process. A question? An answer with little thought. Is this moment amusing; describe how. Is it upsetting; describe how. Are the thoughts starting to scatter? M aybe s o…

Big moment statement.

Action or plan of next big move. Flow should never seem too uniform. Even in normal writing. Don’t be afraid of accentuating— but don’t overdo it. Remember, unhinged characters are impulsive. Have fun with that.

Just as a quick and dirty summary— when it comes to unhinged characters, I like to use comedy, feral behavior, and acting on impulses. I also like to keep it as visually appealing as possible for characters to give the eyes a little treat after reading walls of text. I like to use fun text formatting to help with the fun too (But don’t overdo it! Don’t make it feel like a chore to read) (<- says the girl who goes into way too much details sometimes lmao whoops)

But ultimately— have FUN!!! Unhinged characters are fun, so make sure you have fun writing/drawing/creating them!!

He was in deep, that much was certain. Dark water that only rose up further in him, that chilled his bones, slowed his movements, made his thoughts frantic. It blocked out the sun, made certain there was no escape. No, there was only you.

You, darling Summoner; oh, how you clouded his thoughts. Ike was once a good man, he was certain of that-- but a good man wouldn’t have such dark thoughts about you. He was desperate to keep up the facade, though, too convince you he was still a good person. It was almost too easy, too. Perhaps you wanted to believe him, perhaps you didn’t know-- or maybe, just maybe, you thought like him too. Whatever it was, Ike was glad. Glad you were so obvious, glad you were so trusting-- it made everything so much easier.

“Ike?” Your soft voice catches him off guard. He had been so far in his thoughts, he had nearly forgotten you were here with him-- tugged aside by his own hand. “Is everything okay?” You pause, giving him a small smile. His heart might beat out of his chest from that look alone. You made him ache, did you even know?

It was hard to find his voice. He can’t help but clear his throat, color rising to his cheeks. “Sorry, I was… distracted.” He admits, voice as soft as his rough cadence can let him. He seeks your eyes, his heartbeat not calming at all as you meet it-- not without some color to your own cheeks. “I wanted to speak with you. Privately.” What a lie. The things Ike would do to you, if you would only let him.

“Privately.” You repeat, nodding softly. “Where did you have in mind?” Ike looks around you. A few other Heroes milled about here, (not worthy of your presence-- as if he was?) but this was too good an opportunity to pass up. The chance to get you alone good enough to eat. And did he ever want to consume, to savor you.

“I was hoping we could go to my quarters?” The words come out like a question but Ike is already guiding you that way. It wasn’t far, it’s not like you hadn’t been there before, he rationalizes. Even still, he spirals-- you and he, alone in his room. Where would things go?

“Of course we can!” You’re all to happy to let him lead the way. Did you have any self preservation? No, of course you did-- you just didn’t realize Ike had bad intentions, did you?

All too soon, the two of you arrive. Ike is quick to let you in, to close (to lock!) the door behind you. He watches you settle on the edge of his bed with familiar ease, a sight that sets his heart beating fast once more. “So what did you want to talk about?” You hum softly, but Ike can’t help but notice the way your fingers curl into his unkempt blanket, digging in and out of the soft texture.

Were you nervous? Perhaps even afraid. You ought to be, Summoner. He didn’t plan on letting you leave without getting a taste.

“It’s… not that simple.” Ike laughs, settling beside you. His hand finds way to one yours, easing your nervous fidgeting. Color dusts your cheeks once more and emboldened, Ike continues. “_____…” Ike dares to call you by name, to look you in the eyes and find the right words. He hadn’t planned this, didn’t know what to say now that you were here. Now that you were alone together. “There’s… no easy way to admit this.” A small laugh leaves him, one that has him smoothing back blue hair and taking a deep, fortifying breath. “Do you know what you do to me?”

Do you know how you’ve changed him? Made him feel more beast than man? Do you know the hunger that strikes him, when he sees you turn his way? The ache he feels, when you smile and say his name? Gods, _____, the all consuming urges-- to take you, to claim you, to have his way with you. To lock you away, hide you from the horrors of the battles you fought and the wars you took place in…

“Ike…?” Your voice rises in pitch, with a tone Ike can’t begin to place a name too. He was in too deep to quit talking now, though. You would know of his desires-- and either you would meet them, or you would be caught running from that dark water. Either way, Ike would have his way. But it wouldn’t come to that, would it? Ike could tell-- you wanted to be good for him.

With that new found confidence, Ike continues. “I want you to understand… how much I want to protect you-- see you happy.” Your features soften, only spurring Ike only. Feeding his dark thoughts. “When I see you… when I’m near you… I’m happy, relived. When you’re away, I… feel like I’m not myself. Like something is missing.”

“That’s… so cute…!” Your eyes widen. Ike can practically see the way your heart must be pounding. Did you feel the same? Were your thoughts just as filled with him? Oh, if you felt at all similar, Ike might fall apart on the spot. He might not be able to hold back! Gods, you were holding a hand to your chest. You were in just as deep, he was certain. Two fools, heads underwater.

“All this to say… I love you. I love you and.. I have to keep you as close to me as possible.” He moves towards you, slinking over your form, peering into your eyes with a strange, intense look. But you’re almost too caught up in the moment to even realize how wrong it is. Almost. Precious, oblivious. There was nothing you could do.

“What are you doing, Ike?” Your raise your voice a hair, but don’t fight him as he eases you down. No, Ike sees you shiver instead. Does his touch excite you that much? Does it set you aflame like it does him? He really hopes so-- he can see the excitement in your eyes, see how it dances with fear and trepidation. “Ike?” Would you keep calling his name, the further he pushed?

“You love me, don’t you?” Ike can only smile as he sees you nodding dumbly. He smooths a hand along your jaw, caressing your cheek softly. He keeps his smile a moment, before it falls as he begins to speak again. “Then put your hands up for me.” It’s an order, not a request. You merely sit there, hands at your side as Ike unties his headband, staring up at him confused.

“Ike, come on this isn’t funny.” You try once, face falling when Ike doesn’t respond. “Ike, really, what’s wrong with you?” You wretch your hands free of his gentle grip, looking up at him with confusion, fear dilating your pupils. He could see the startings of a cold sweat on your skin, the way your eyes shifted around the room. But there would be no escaping this. No escaping him.

“I have to keep you here.” The words are stern, as hard as his grip on your hands this time. You struggle on still, your strength surprising Ike as you free your hands again. You attempt to sit up, breathing fast, the surge of adrenaline hitting you obvious. Perhaps you weren’t as dumb as he had thought-- no, you just really thought Ike was one of the good ones. Too bad for you, he was even worse. “Here, I can protect you, keep you safe… keep you to myself.” He grunts, grabbing your hands even tighter than the moments before. Still, you fight him.

“Ike you can’t be serious!” You raise your voice, still fighting off his attempt-- wiggling and wrenching, trying in vein to fight him off. A valiant effort-- but unfortunately, a mere wave in the storm of Ike’s dark desires.

“Don’t you want to stay here, with me?” You falter a moment, seeing something in him. A sliver of the man you had fallen in love with? Or an invitation to sink further into the darkness with him?

“Ike, no, I can’t. Not like this. Not when so many people depend on me!” Instead, you double down, fighting even more. Ike can’t help the small frown that fits his face. He had really hoped you would understand-- perhaps, it was too much to ask for. Even he was aware how twisted his affections had become-- he couldn’t find it in him to care, though. Not when you were here, finally, in his arms.

“You’re so cute when you’re struggling.” Ike chuckles softly, pressing his hips down into yours. You freeze, breath hitching. Now, now you know what you do to him-- and keep acting this way, you’ll know the consequences too. “But don’t make me hurt you. We both know how easy that would be, _____.” You shrink back like a violet, your features showing just how betrayed you felt. It’s all too easy to capture your hands now, holding them in one of his large ones.

“It doesn’t have to be like this, Ike. Please.” You try one more time to appeal to a better side of him. But Ike had long since drowned in these feelings for you. Now it was time to pull you under as well.

“No, I think it does. This is where you belong-- all pretty and compliant, struggling so cutely under me...” Ike has to look away from your face a moment, to tie you to his headboard. Tight, but secure. You would need his help if you wanted to leave.

“Ike, please.” You whisper, tears welling in your eyes. Ike merely leans in close, his lips a hair’s breath from your eyes.

“Shh, it’s okay _____. I know it’s scary right now-- but we love each other. You’ll come around to my way of loving and you see… you won’t even want to leave.” Ike cradles your head, soaks in the look of helplessness on your face. Yes, soon you’ll come to understand-- you would feel so loved and protected, you wouldn’t even dream of leaving him.

Bengiyo's Queer Cinema Syllabus

For those of you who don’t know, I decided to run the gauntlet of @bengiyo’s queer cinema syllabus, which is comprised of 9 units. I have completed four of the units (here is my queer cinema syllabus round up post with all the films I’ve watched and written about so far). It is time for me to make my way through Unit 5- Lesbians, which includes the following films: The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995), Bound (1996), Water Lilies (2007)[finally got my hands on this one but I still need to watch it], Saving Face (2004), D.E.B.S. (2004), Set It Off (1996), The Handmaiden (2016), Carol (2015), Imagine Me and You (2005), Two of Us (2019), Rafiki (2018), and The Color Purple (1985).

Dear readers, 

I cannot for the life of me tell you what it was about this movie that made it so difficult for me to start it but alas I have finally gotten here, finally watched it, and finally typed up my thoughts. Hilariously, this viewing was perfectly timed for the holidays because it is mainly set at Christmas and even if it wasn’t the extremely strong red/green color scheme of Carol and between Carol and Therese would have gotten me there anyway. 

Sorry to those of you who may have absolutely loved this movie, but I found it…okay? I definitely didn’t hate it or anything but it’s definitely not going on my list of favorites. I did enjoy how much of the film relied on stolen glances between Carol and Therese to be like “lesbian?” “lesbian?!” because that kind of subtle quiet signalling in the shoulder touches and the intense eye contact is what you are often forced to do for the sake of safety.

The other thing I did find to be really interesting and important to the narrative is the way in which Carol’s soon-to-be ex-husband is holding Rindy over Carol’s head to try to get what he wants. I think Carol is in a really precarious situation here because while Therese is lower class, and lacks a general amount of power, Carol has a chance of losing any and all access to her daughter because she refuses to be controlled by Harge’s desires. 

And I appreciate the representation of the mental and physical toll that trying to go back in the closet and some version of conversion therapy takes on a person who is trying to pretend to be something they are not for the sake of maintaining a relationship with the people in their life that they care about. Generally speaking, I do not think it is unfair of Carol to leave Therese in order to maintain a relationship with Rindy. 

What is not fair, is leaving Therese in the middle of the night and having Abby take care of Therese after that. Especially after Therese has been illegally recorded having sex with Carol. Like I can see trying to put space between yourself and the person who you have indirectly harmed. But while I do believe that Carol has every right to break it off with Therese in an effort to maintain her parental custody of Rindy, and that Therese can be allowed to forgive Carol for that and re-establish a relationship with her later. I was honestly kind of mad at Therese for agreeing to try again with Carol after the way Carol left her. Because to me, that wasn’t fair to Therese for what she has lost pursuing her own feelings. Carol left her in the middle of the night, she went no contact, she maintained that boundary when Therese tried to check in on her, but the second that she has figured out a way out of her situation. When he’s allowed Harge to take custody of Rindy but with visitation rights, she thinks she can just go running back to the person she left hanging with the knowledge that she is a part of a fucking illegally recorded porn video that is just fucking floating around somewhere probably. 

I was really excited when at first Therese rebuked Carol’s proposal to start back over, and was disappointed when she walked that back soon after. Though, was I surprised? No. Getting back to what I mentioned earlier about the color-coding. Carol’s whole life was green. When Therese first goes to her home, Carol is wearing green, she has a “green present” for Rindy (the Christmas tree), the phone she uses is green, if I remember correctly, even her car is green. So when Therese returns home and paints her entire fucking apartment green what else was going to happen? Therese made her choice. And we reaffirm the ending when the other lesbian woman tries to approach her at the house party to no avail. 

Favorite Moment

Honestly, I think my favorite moment was Carol still affirming to Therese that she is interested in her and wants to be physically intimate, share a bed, etc even after the illegal porn recording. And I think I feel the same about Therese, still choosing to be intimate with Carol after the video. In some ways it feels like they are liberating themselves, and I like that they don’t run scared from intimacy or their lust/desire because someone is trying to hold it over their head.

I do truly appreciate that Abby does not give a single fuck for Harge’s feelings. Because he is being kind of a massive dick.

There was a lot a liked about this film. It had a strong visual message and knew what it was trying to say. I liked that the lesbians were still pretty unapologetic and that it did feel real, and I like that Therese didn’t run from her feelings for Carol and that Carol stood up for herself and her sexuality in the hearing. I do not want people to think that I am docking the film for simply struggling to hit play. There is a lot to like about this film. Also, Cate Blanchett being a lesbian is always a plus.

What did your natural hair look like before hair loss and what does it look like now?

Howdy!

These two are when I shaved it and grew it out for about a 2 years

I was 2.5 years on T ish!

Then in 2017-2019 I started noticing a lot of my hair falling out in the shower, I didn't think anything of it since my sister also loses a lot of hair in the shower. But that was definitely me experiencing hair loss through testosterone. I should have started finasteride and rogaine then 🤷 That doesn't cure hair loss but it slows down the process.

Below are two photos of me in 2018 having a rough time of it and feeling very self conscious about my thinning hair

Fast forward to 2022 and I did my mohawk and dyed hair a lot because It kind of better disguises the fact that you have/ thinning/ balding happening

And currently? I have a shaved head! Cause a character I cosplay frequently has a majority of his head shaved as well I wear wigs most of the time!

In the end, it took me so long to accept the fact I lost a HUGE part of me. I wasn't aware that the hair loss genetic was on your mother's father and not my own. My dad and his mom have thick hair. But my mother and her father have VERY THIN hair. 🤷

In the end, I love wearing wigs! I can have a new hair style/color pretty quickly at a relatively affordable price depending on the wig I pick! I know how to cut them and dye them since I did my own hair for over a decade. I was self conscious no one would find me attractive with a shaved head or after finding out I wear wigs, but literally, since this part of my life has started, no one gives a shit. They're like oh? Cool!

My confidence is back after being lost for all those years and it shows. And it speaks volumes if someone wants to get to know me, and then upon finding out that it's not my natural hair, they don't want to talk to me any longer, I do not need those types of individuals in my life.

Anyways, if you want some advice or any more questions, hmu.

I also have experience with hair pieces! I did then for a year and a half total. They are EXPENSIVE but can be worth it for the right person.
